Learning about the toxic ingredients in store bought deodorants was very eye opening for me! It scared me at first, but then I felt empowered. Empowered because I can educate my girls before they ever begin wearing deodorant! I feel a huge victory knowing they won’t have any cancer causing chemicals impairing their lymph nodes! This recipe is so darn easy, and it lasts for close to a year! Not joking! So not only is it a natural option, it’s also cheap as dirt! That’s a win in my book! This recipe was inspired by my lovely friend, Jennifer Cowley.
In a small glass bowl, melt the coconut oil. I like to set my small glass bowl in a bit of boiling water as it melts the coconut oil naturally and quickly. I am not a fan of microwaves, but you do what you are comfortable with. Add your baking soda, arrowroot powder, and raspberry seed or vitamin E oil and mix thoroughly. Add your essential oils of choice, stir to combine and store in an airtight container. Ingredients will solidify as coconut oil sets. Keep in mind that the deodorant will be softer in the summer when the temperatures are warmer because coconut oil melts above 76 degrees F. In the winter, it will be more solid because of the cooler temps. *When choosing your blend of essential oils, look for those that eliminate odors and soothe your skin.
